Module 2: Properties of Exponents

Property Project

During this module, you learned about properties of exponents. Now you get to be creative with this new knowledge in a collaborative group project. For this assignment, you will work with your peers to develop a creative piece (song, poem, rap, etc.) about the content you studied in this module. Your group will also present your work to the rest of the class as determined by your instructor.

Collaboration occurs when two or more people work together toward a common goal. In this assignment, your group’s goal is to design a creative presentation that explains a specific property or definition. Your group may create a song, a commercial jingle, a poem, a rap, a short story, or something else approved by your instructor. Your project should:

  • Name the property or definition.
  • Describe the property or definition.
  • Explain a scenario or example of the applied property or definition.

Your group should be as creative as possible and include all members of your group.

The Steps for Completing this Group Project

  1. Select one of the following properties or definitions:
    • Product of Powers Property
    • Power of a Power Property
    • Power of a Product Property
    • Quotient of Powers Property
    • Power of a Quotient Property
    • Definition of a Zero Exponent
    • Definition of a Negative Exponent

  2. Determine how you can teach other students about your group’s selected property or definition through a chosen genre (i.e. lyrics to a song or jingle, poem, rap, etc.) and create your group’s project. Make sure that you record your work on a document that can be submitted as a script.

  3. Prepare a brief presentation where each member of your group participates in the delivery of your collaborative project. Your instructor will provide an opportunity for you to share your work with your classmates.

Before you begin, access the Property Project Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit.

Reflection

After you have completed the assignment above, take a moment to reflect on the following questions. Respond to each of these questions in a brief four to five sentence paragraph.

  • Which of the other groups’ presentation was most effective in helping you understand the property or definition? What made it so effective?

Once you have completed the assignment and reflection, please submit your work to the dropbox.
