Introduction to Topic 10.3 - Normal Distributions and Finding Probability

probability curve

Probability and percent are two concepts people tend to understand very well as they apply to the real world. For example, if you are reading an article that says “50% of American children do not eat a good breakfast before attending school”, you have a pretty good idea of what that number means. Most people understand that the probability of winning a state lottery is very low.

In this topic, we will study the important statistical concept of normal distributions, and use the properties of a normal distribution to solve problems involving probability.

Essential question: How does a normal distribution help us answer probability questions for real-life data?
