Throughout this course, we have solved algebraic equations that have been presented as both specific algebraic problems and real-world word problems. These two types of problems are closely related; in fact, the first task in solving a real-world word problem is to “translate” the narrative description in the word problem to one or more algebraic expressions which may be manipulated, through appropriate operations, to produce solutions.
Before we learn how to apply these problem-solving skills to exponential and logarithmic equations, let’s practice translating some word problems into algebraic expressions.
