Learning about balancing equations and predicting the products of chemical reactions all began with one chemist, Antoine Lavoisier. Using one of the most extensive laboratories of the time, Lavoisier set the foundation for how chemists predict what will happen in chemical reactions using balanced equations. Of course, Lavoisier learned his chemistry through experimentation. He was responsible for thousands of reactions using precise measurements. It was Lavoisier who devised the Law of Conservation of Mass. Thanks to Antoine Lavoisier; you now have the knowledge to balance equations and can predict the products of chemical reactions. Those equations may include the production of precipitates, or spectator ions and electrolytes. During these chemical reactions, bonds are broken and formed.
