Module 12: Oceanography

Scuba DiverThe ocean is a complex Earth system that interacts with every other Earth system. To understand the ocean, you must also study geology, meteorology, and even astronomy. It is a big undertaking, and in this module you investigated it all. You began with the formation of the ocean, the chemistry of ocean water, and the structure of ocean waves. Then, you studied the ocean tides and how salinity and temperature drive ocean currents that affect Earth’s climate. You took a trip deep under the ocean to discover the geology and life forms in different ocean zones and along the shore. Finally, you considered the complicated relationship between humans, the ocean environment, and the economy. After all of that, you can now better understand the complex, connected, underwater field of oceanography.
