Module 6: Rocks

Rocks App Design

Authentic AssessmentTwo people looking at lava and using a mobile deviceImagine that an entertainment company has hired you to develop the concept for a mobile or computer-based game application (or "app") that provides students with some introductory information about rocks. The company might develop the app and release it to the general public if your concept is accepted. In order to present your concept to the company, you will need to develop a proposal that outlines the basic purpose of the game, how it works, the basic design, mock-ups, and what someone playing it would learn.

Use the Rocks App Design Template to create your application proposal. Make sure to read through and complete each section of the template. Your app design should address the following topics:

  • Igneous rocks;
  • Sedimentary rocks;
  • Metamorphic rocks; and
  • The rock cycle.

Before you begin, access the Rocks App Design Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit. You may need to use resources outside of this course to complete this assignment. If so, please submit a Works Cited document. If you need assistance, visit the Developmental Module for information on citing any resources that you used.

Reflection

After you have completed your rock application design, reflect on the process and what you created. In three to four sentences, explain whether or not you think that technology, like mobile applications, is important to science education. Which part(s) of the app creation process did you enjoy? Which part(s) did you not enjoy?
