Imagine that you are looking through your email inbox and you come across an email from someone offering you a large sum of money, but only if you send your bank account number and personal information to the sender. What if it's an ad about software that promises you the earning potential of thousands of dollars a month for very little effort on your part? Should you click on the link in your email? Not if you are a smart consumer! Some companies and people try to take advantage of consumers with false offers to get your money or personal information so they can commit crimes in your name! With a little knowledge, you can protect yourself from being a victim.
In this module, we will learn about your rights and responsibilities as a consumer. We will explore the different parts of a contract, and what you need to know before you sign on the dotted line. Last, we will learn about common frauds, scams, and schemes designed to take your hard-earned money and your identity. You'll be prepared to protect yourself against unscrupulous people and organizations.
Before you begin learning about consumer skills, take a moment to assess your prior knowledge. In this interactivity, you will have the chance to see what you already know about terms associated with consumer skills. Click the player button to get started.
