Have you ever heard anyone use the idiom, “hit a brick wall?" When you hit the proverbial “brick wall,” you are at a point where you feel that you cannot progress or move forward. As you experience life, you will be confronted with the obstacles that create feelings of doubt and defeat. While experiencing these many obstacles, you could become frustrated and may not know why you are experiencing this; however, as you reflect you will become appreciative of these obstacles and realize who you are and what you are capable of enduring and achieving.
In this module, you have read and analyzed literary works from authors who have faced some of life’s most difficult changes. Obstacles such as society’s roles and perceptions, assimilation, and fear and disappointment affected the authors' lives in a way that they felt the need to share their experiences through literature. Remember, as you face hurdles in your own life, that obstacles are an opportunity to grow and learn more about yourself.
