Module 3: Exploring Good, Evil, and Noble Sacrifice

The Anglo-Saxon and Medieval Periods created a foundation for all of British literature, as well as much of the literature in the United States. Because of the relative instability of these time periods, many stories featured idealized heroes making honest and just decisions in the face of danger or evil. Through the readings in this module, you explored early epics, Anglo-Saxon and medieval poetry, as well as medieval romances. By using a variety of literary devices, writers created exciting stories of adventure and made thoughtful observations about human nature.
