The literature of the Neoclassical and Restoration Periods reflected the political and social changes of the time. But political and social changes were not isolated to that time period; there are many different social issues that receive media attention in modern times. For the first part of this module assessment, you will work collaboratively with other members of your course to develop a presentation based on one of your ideas for a topic and purpose. In the second part of the assignment, you will peer evaluate a presentation from another group in your course.
Part A: Collaborative Presentation
Collaboration occurs when two or more people work together towards a common goal. In the first part of this assignment, your team's goal is to create a five to ten minute presentation related to the social issue that you choose as a group. In the second part of the assignment, you will choose one presentation from other members of your course to peer evaluate using a peer evaluation rubric.
Rather than dividing up the assignment between members of your group, plan on setting up several sessions to discuss the content of the presentation, which should include content and visual aids. Your presentation should explain the topic chosen by your group and include at least one of each of the five types of content introduced in the Presentation Skills topic. Your presentation should be engaging, original, and clearly-designed so that your coursemates can understand it when you present it to them. Each member of your team must present at least one minute of content. You should look at the Social Issues Presentation Peer Evaluation Form below to learn more about how you will be assessed on this assignment. Your fellow coursemates and your instructor will use this form to evaluate your presentation.
You will need to use resources outside of this course to complete this assignment. If so, please submit a Works Cited document. If you need assistance, visit the Developmental Module for information on citing any resources that you use.
Each time you meet as a group, it may be helpful to assign the following role types within your group. Depending on the size of your group, one person may assume more than one role, or more than one person may assume one role. Make sure to reassign roles each time you meet so that each member of the group gets an opportunity to assume different responsibilities throughout the project.
Part B: Presentation Peer Evaluation
Your instructor will let you know when it is your turn to evaluate a presentation delivered by your peers. You should use the Social Issues Presentation Peer Evaluation Form to complete your evaluation. Make sure to thoroughly read through the form before you begin your evaluation. You should be fair and honest when evaluating your peers. Please extend the same courtesy and respect to them that you would like for them to have when evaluating you.
This assignment might be a work sample that you want to include in your digital portfolio.
Reflection
After evaluating another team's presentation, are there any changes that your team would like to make to yours? Were there rhetorical devices used by the other teams that were particularly effective? In a digital document separate from your presentation, compose four to five sentences responding to these questions.
Once your team has completed the presentation, Works Cited document, your Social Issues Presentation Peer Evaluation Form, and you have completed your reflection, please submit your work to the dropbox.
Once you have completed this module, please complete the module test.
