A 16th century Italian fresco of Odysseus's boat
passing between Scylla and Charybdis
What a journey! Like Odysseus, you had to use your wits and cunning to complete the obstacles set before you in this module. You read about the struggle of Odysseus to get home to Ithaca, as well as the monsters, gods, goddesses, and objects keeping him away. You also explored the ancient world through the eyes of Odysseus and Homer. Along the way, Homer brought Odysseus's world to life through the literary devices used by Homer, such as Homeric similes and epithets, imagery, and irony. The lessons taught in this module will prove useful in helping you analyze literature from this point forward, and will also enhance your understanding of classical literature.
