Module 1: Leçons Préliminaires
While it can be challenging to learn a new language and study cultures where it is spoken, doing so can enable you to have experiences that will enrich not only your education, but also your personal life. For this module assessment, you are to set up either a journal or a blog to document your journey in becoming a French speaker. You will record various accounts throughout this year and hopefully into future French courses that describe your challenges, feelings, successes, and obstacles. You might document events like having conversations in French, comprehending the langauge for the first time, exploring French culture, reading French literature, watching a French movie, eating a new French food, discovering French art or music, or writing to a French pen pal. The options are endless.
There are several ways that you can journal. You might choose one of the following options:
- Keep notes on your phone or mobile device
- Set up a folder on your computer that can hold digital files (i.e. word processing files)
- Use a mobile app
- Write in a notebook or journal
- Maintain a blog
The key to journaling is to be consistent, be open and honest, and to just write or draw. This is a personal archive so spelling and grammar do not count.
To complete this assignment, write a journal entry in English that describes what it has been like learning some basics of the French language. Submit your work to the dropbox.
