Course Overview

The world in which you live is steadily shrinking. Communication and transportation are faster than ever before. Statistical data shows that people your age have a greater chance of traveling to other countries than in previous generations. America is known as a melting pot, so you do not have to travel far to hear another language. Did you know that one of the greatest compliments you can pay someone is speaking to them in their native language? Even when you do not pronounce every word correctly, they will be pleased that you tried. Moreover, studies show that students who have taken a foreign language in high school score more than 100 points higher on SAT® tests and perform better in college courses. It may further surprise you to know that putting a foreign language on your resume, whether you are looking for full-time or part-time employment, gives you an advantage with employers.

The next question you might ask is, “Why French?” For many years, French has been the fastest growing language in the world. Recently, Forbes magazine published an article with statistics showing that French will be the world’s most widely spoken language within the next twenty years because of the growth and expansion of countries in Africa. Historically, French is considered to be one of the world’s most sophisticated languages, and its culture is certainly one of the world’s most elegant.

What do you say? Let’s get started! Some of the many topics you will cover in this course are greetings, clothing, food and restaurant etiquette, school courses, and sports. You will also be introduced to many of the world’s francophone countries. Learning a language expands your thinking processes and your knowledge of other people. Enjoy your journey because your life will never be the same again.
