assignment iconPretend that you have been selected to be part of NOAA's new Ocean Floor expedition team for the summer and your job is to document the journey that you just took though the different geologic features of the ocean floor, including the continental margin; the mid-ocean ridges and hydrothermal vents; the abyssal plain; seamounts and guyots; and trenches. You can record the events of this journey using an electronic blog format or a travel or captain's log. You will need to include a minimum of five different entries that include observations and details about the following geologic features (one entry per feature):

  • Continental margin
  • Mid-ocean ridges and hydrothermal vents
  • Abyssal plain
  • Seamounts and guyots
  • Trenches

Be creative and informative! You may want to discuss items like the age of the ocean floor, tectonic features, plant and animal life, major plate boundaries, and elevations and depressions. Include any graphics that might help make your descriptions clearer.
