Module 5: Sedimentation

students in a labassignment iconNow that you have learned about the ways in which sediments are created, transported, and extracted, it is time for you to become the scientist. Have you ever created your own scientific investigation for a science fair? For this assignment, you will create a science fair project based around a scientific investigation that you design. In this module, you learned the importance of sediments to people and to the economy, so your scientific investigation should address the extraction of sediments from the ocean. You will not need to actually perform the experiment, but your scientific investigation design must include:

  • An introduction to the scientific investigation and a list of objectives
  • A list of the equipment that you will need
  • A diagram or sketch of your experimental set-up
  • Step-by-step procedures to follow
  • List of data to be collected, along with any data tables
  • A list of two to three questions that will help you analyze the data

Before you begin, access the Scientific Investigation Design Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit. You may need to use resources outside of this course to complete this assignment. If so, please submit a Works Cited document. If you need assistance, visit the Developmental Module for information on citing any resources that you used.
