Module 7: Ocean Motion

cargo shipauthentic assessment iconCongratulations! You have been hired by the Acme Ocean Cargo Transport as a ship captain taking the next load of important cargo to China for distribution. You must deliver this precious cargo safely. Your job depends on its safe arrival in Hong Kong. There is a twist -- you must arrive before your competitors.

  • How will you be able to travel faster through the oceans?
  • What currents will you take?
  • Will any winds help you? If so, which ones and why?
  • What concerns might you have in relation to currents, waves, and/or tides?

Your supervisor wants to see your plan for transporting the cargo safely and on time. Design your plan, then create a presentation to present to your supervisor describing your journey from the Chesapeake Bay to Hong Kong. Answer the questions above, and in doing so, make sure to describe the ocean currents and wind patterns you will encounter on your travels. In addition, describe any concerns you might have in relation to currents, waves, and/or tides.
