Welcome to Physics

runner imageThis course introduces you to a powerful way of thinking about the physical world with which you interact every day. You will learn to apply your math skills to analyze the motion of objects, the behavior of electric charges and the phenomena of waves, among other things. Each module may include self-checks, interactive and review activities, projects, discussion boards, simulations, scientific investigations, and assessments. You will experience hands-on activities, applications, group interactions and various technologies throughout this course. This course is aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning and will provide you the foundation to further explore the physical sciences.

The Standards of Learning for physics, established by the Commonwealth of Virginia, are covered throughout this course. The major units of study cover the following topics:

• Describing Motion • Forces and Newton’s Laws • Motion in two dimensions • Work and Energy • Conservation of Energy • Impulse and Momentum • Waves, Sound and Light • Electricity and Circuits • 20th Century Physics
