Module 9: Psychological Disorders and Treatment

Teenager in therapyAll psychological disorders are determined by biological, psychological, and social factors. Furthermore disorders have categories according to clusters of symptoms, and psychologists diagnose disorders using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). The DSM organizes diagnoses of disorders according to main dimensions or categories related to various aspects of each disorder. Once a psychological disorder gets identified, approaches to therapy are eclectic. This means the therapist uses whichever techniques seem most useful and relevant for a given patient.
