North Africa

Cairo, Egypt
Although the Sahara makes up the majority of North Africa, this has not prevented people from making the region home. Access to water is extremely vital. This has led to uneven population distribution in the region. Most people are concentrated along the Mediterranean coast or near the banks of the Nile River. These areas contain densely populated cities with rich histories. Ancient structures can be seen standing near modern buildings. Outside urban areas, people maintain a traditional way of life that has remained mostly unchanged for hundreds of years.
