Module Summary

Sub-Saharan Africa

Johannesburg, South Africa

Sub-Saharan Africa has a variety of physical features. You experienced the dry deserts of Southern Africa, lush rainforests of the Congo Basin, and grassy savannas of East Africa. The physical geography of this region influences the way people live.

You also learned about challenges Sub-Saharan Africans face in a post-colonial world. The region lacks infrastructure. It also has political instability and suffers from natural disasters like droughts. These difficulties have prevented economic development in many countries. Much of the population lives in poor rural areas. Some nations have overcome these challenges. Others continue to work toward a brighter future.
