West Africa consists of sixteen countries located on the Atlantic coast. Some of these countries are islands. Others are landlocked. Central Africa is south of West Africa. It is along the Atlantic coast. This region is dominated by the Congo River Basin and rainforest.

It also has traditional music and dance, and ancient trading and educational centers. The economy of this region is based on subsistence farming, mineral riches, and a few important exports.
