The Split of the Church

The collapse of the Roman Empire and the Rise of the Byzantine Empire in Eastern Europe raised questions as to the ability of the Christian Church to continue unifying all Christians. The distance and lack of contact between those in Western Europe and those in Eastern Europe slowly caused differences to emerge within Christianity. Eventually the Christian Church split into two separate entities: Roman Catholic Christianity in Western Europe, and Greek Orthodox Christianity in Eastern Europe.
