With current technology, it is impossible to study all of the stars in space and classify them as either a single star, like the Sun, or in star systems. Astronomers have studied the closest stars to the Sun and found that nearly half are single stars, around 36% are in binary systems, 12% are in triple systems, and 4% are in quaternary systems. Even further studies show that less than 1% of stars are found in systems with five members or more.
After reading these statistics, what do you think life would be like if the Sun was in a system orbiting other stars? How would life on Earth be affected by the addition of another solar body?
