Kingdom Plantae

Flowers

Plants originated in the oceans before evolving onto land. Bryophytes, the first land plants, were dependent upon water. Eventually bryophytes evolved into vascular plants that could survive on land. Vascular plants continued to evolve into the forms you can observe today. Some of these plants possess cones, while others have flowers.

All plants regulate their intake and output of water and nutrients in order to maintain homeostasis. The vascular tissues in plants bring in water and nutrients needed for photosynthesis. The phloem pumps nutrients into the roots of plants for storage during the winter months. Plants even have the ability to grow toward the light, known as phototropism.
