pride of lionsNow that you have learned about Linnaean taxonomy and binomial nomenclature, you will have a chance to explore the hierarchy of taxa regarding a species of your choice. For this Application assignment, select an organism and look up its scientific name. Then, construct a diagram that shows an illustration of the organism in each of its taxa, from species to kingdom. Each taxon above the level of species should include illustrations of other members of the taxon. Be sure to label the name of each taxon as it applies to your selected organism. Access the classification example provided of a lion (Panthera leo), which belongs to the family Felidae and the order Carnivora.

 

Options to create your comic strip include the following.

  • Hand-draw the assignment and then take a picture of it for submission to the assignment's dropbox.
  • Hand-draw the assignment and then scan it for submission to the assignment's dropbox.
  • Utilize a paint, publishing, word processing, presentation, or graphics software program to create the assignment.
