Classification of Matter

Matter is defined as anything that has mass and volume. Examples of matter are all around you:  your textbook, the jewel in your favorite pair of earrings, the plastic in your football helmet, the orange juice that is in your refrigerator, and the graphite in your pencil (that is often inaccurately called pencil lead). There are countless examples. Think about the properties that all of these things share. What makes them different?
