Heat Changes Associated with Physical Changes; Heating Curves

CondensatiionWhat happens when you pour a cold drink into a glass during a warm day? The outside of the glass will “sweat,” or water droplets will gather on the glass. This is known as condensation. Why does this happen? Condensation occurs as water droplets are cooled very rapidly. Water in the gas phase makes the transition to the water phase and collects on the glass. If enough water collects it will drip down the side of the glass. This rapid change in phase is best described graphically. In this topic, you will investigate phase changes and their graphic representation.

Essential Questions

  • What are the different types of phase changes?
