One of the amazing things about science is that sometimes discoveries are made when you are least expecting them. This is one of the reasons why the scientific method is so important. In 1964, two scientists, Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, discovered cosmic microwave background radiation that is now believed to be leftover from the Big Bang. While working in the Holmdel Horn Antenna for AT&T Bell Laboratories, the two scientists discovered the radiation while trying to determine why extra static was being received on telephone calls. They both received the Nobel Prize for their discovery in 1978. This discovery would serve as a major piece of evidence for the Big Bang Theory and begin the field of cosmology.
