All four Jovian planets share several defining characteristics. They are all large, gaseous, have a low density, and are located outside of the asteroid belt, far from the Sun. They also all have rings and several moons. Astronomers have learned much of what they know about these faraway planets from the Voyager space probes which were launched in 1977 and are still traveling through space today and sending data back to Earth.
