The Role of Government and Policy

Using the Internet or the library, find two articles from major newspapers, periodicals, or government publications (not more than 1 year old) with the following topics:

• One article should describe a monetary policy action taken by our government to help stabilize our current economy.
• The second article should describe a fiscal policy action taken by the government to help stabilize our current economy.

Using the articles, write a one to two sentence summary of each, specifying what action was taken for each policy. Then write a paragraph stating your opinion of the government’s actions in each article. Do you think those actions were effective? What else do you think the government can do to stabilize our economy? Give specific examples (for example, cut specific programs, increase taxes, etc.) and explain what each of your examples would accomplish. Be sure to address the government’s spending habits.
