Researching Your Family History
Just as Oedipus had to understand where he came from and his family history to discover his true self, you too have to know your origins. Your ancestors provide genetic material and a cultural framework that impact your health, attitude, and your future. Knowing your family history can reveal parts of your identity and true self.
Family today can mean many different things to many people. Some families now consider close friends as members. Many families have faced loss. It is common that families have experienced second marriages of one or both parents. For this assignment, you will take the time to interview various members in your family. If possible, try to interview your mother's and father’s families. Your questions can focus on the following topics:
After you have gathered as much information as you can, create a digital presentation in which you highlight your family history. Before you begin, access the Family History Checklist so that you understand the expectations for this assignment. You may need to use resources outside of this course to complete this assignment. If so, please submit a Works Cited document. If you need assistance, visit the Developmental Module for information on citing any resources that you used.
This
assignment might be a work sample that you want to include in your digital portfolio.
Reflection
What has been revealed to you as you have researched your family? Have you discovered anything new about yourself that you did not know before? In three to four sentences write a brief reflection that connects what you learned about yourself and/or your family to the topic of Self-Discovery Through Moments of Weakness.
