Act Three is truly the climax, or point of highest emotion and tension, of The Crucible. John Proctor's admission of adultery, Elizabeth's denial, and John's subsequent arrest and denouncement of God and the court were definitely emotional and powerful enough to raise the audience's blood pressure. With Proctor's ironic claim that "God is dead," his fate has been sealed. To further ensure a complete miscarriage of justice, Reverend Hale, the only voice of reason among the judges, has forcibly quit the proceedings, refusing to be a part of such a blatant witch hunt.
All that is left is to see how this tragedy will be finally resolved.
