Re-read Thomas Paine's The Crisis, Number One using the Active Reading Comprehension (ARC) strategy modeled earlier in this topic. Before reading, answer the Pre-reading Questions completely. While reading, you will write summaries; record questions, comments, and connections; and highlight and define new or interesting vocabulary words.
Using the The Crisis, Number One Template as a guide, remember to include summaries and record questions, comments, and connections after every couple of paragraphs to ensure you are demonstrating understanding of the reading selection. Identify important characteristics of the speaker, the target audience, and Paine’s purpose. At the end of the selection, answer the Reflection Questions completely.
Before you begin, review the ARC Strategy Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit.
