Module 10: Course Culminating Assignment - Genre Project Design

Assessment iconNow that you have studied several different literary genres, it is time for you to show how much you know about them through this course culminating assignment. For this assignment, you get to design your own project to demonstrate your knowledge about genres. In your project, you must include information or references to each of the literary genres that you studied in this course, including short stories, novels, poetry, epics, dramas, and nonfiction.

You will begin by coming up with an idea for your project. Provided below are a few examples of project ideas. You may use one of these ideas, or create your project:

  • Design a fashion or shoe line in which one piece is based on each of the genres that you studied;
  • Compose an original song or poem based on genres;
  • Create an artistic interpretation of genres through drawing, graphic design, collage, paint, or photography, etc.;
  • Create avatars or characters to represent each of the genres; or
  • Create a project idea of your own.

Next, you will need to get approval from your instructor using the Genre Proposal Template. On this template, you will be asked to complete the following questions.

  1. How do you plan to represent each of the genres? Specifically, which features of each do you plan to depict?
  2. What information will you include to demonstrate that you understand each of the different genres?
  3. What will your final product look like/sound like/depict?
  4. How do you think your instructor should assess your final project submission?

After you have received approval from your instructor, it is time to complete your project based on your responses in the Genre Project Proposal Template. No matter which project you choose, you will need to make sure that the information conveyed through your project is accurate, that your project is organized and well-designed, and that it is free from spelling or grammar errors.

Before you begin the project process, access the Genre Project Rubric to make sure you have included all of the needed items required for full credit.
