Every sentence requires both a subject (a noun or pronoun) and a predicate (a verb). It is important to make sure that subjects and verbs agree in both number and person. Singular subjects, which name a single noun or pronoun, take singular verbs, and plural subjects, which name two or more nouns or pronouns, take plural verbs. Remember this simple rule, even when dealing with more complex subjects. Ask yourself: is the subject singular or plural?
