Act II

student using a tabletIn this topic, you have reviewed common literary devices used in poetry and drama, such as figurative language and sound devices. To understand how Shakespeare skillfully employed these literary devices in his dramatic works, you studied examples of each literary device by drawing from Act I of Romeo and Juliet. Later in this topic, you read the second act of Romeo and Juliet. Now it is time to demonstrate your understanding of the language from Act II. For this topic application, you are going to identify examples of figurative language and sound devices from Scene ii of Act II (the balcony scene). You will need to identify and document two examples of each of the literary devices studied in this topic: alliteration, allusion, couplet, metaphor, personification, pun, and simile.

You may record your examples from the text in the template attached to the checklist, or you may create your own document and clearly label each quotation with the corresponding literary device. Before you begin, review the Act II Literary Devices Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit.
