Introduction to the Francophone World
You never know in life when you will meet a person from a francophone country. Perhaps you will visit France one day, or maybe someone from Gabon will move to your hometown. Take some time now to really familiarize yourself with the locations in the world where French is commonly spoken. One day you may have a chance to meet someone from one of these countries, or maybe you will get to travel there someday.
For this topic application, use the list of territories and blank maps provided to label the thirty-nine francophone countries and territories. The countries are listed in English, but you should label your maps using the French names. Pay close attention to spelling, including diacritical marks. You can choose to label the countries by inserting the names digitally on the electronic document, but you may find it easier to write on a printed copy of the maps. Then, you can scan a copy of your work for submission to the dropbox. Just remember to label the countries in French, although you can include the English names as well.
As you identify and label the francophone countries, think about which country you would like to visit and why. After you have completed your maps, compose a brief paragraph in English that explains why you would like to visit your selected country. Do you already know someone from that country? Have you heard of interesting tourist destinations in that country, or are you simply attracted by the climate?
Before you begin, review the Francophone World Map Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit.
Once you have completed your maps and brief paragraph, please submit your work to the dropbox.
