What Is It?
The Romance languages of French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese differ from English in one very important way. In English people use the articles a, an, and the, and the pronoun it, without any reference to gender. In French, these words will vary because nouns are either masculine or feminine for grammatical purposes. Although male people and animals are masculine, and female people and animals are feminine, you must also learn the genders of objects that do not have an intrinsic masculine or feminine quality.
From this point forward, when you learn a new noun in French, you should learn the gender marker assigned to it. In this topic, you will learn various pronouns and personal subject pronouns.
