Northwest Africa

Le Maghreb is a region in Northwest Africa that includes the francophone countries of Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia. The artisans in these countries sell their crafts at open-air markets called souks, and play an important role in the economy of the countries. The Sahara Desert goes through all three countries, resulting in a large amount of uninhabitable land. Each country has its own individual attractions, such as soccer in Morocco, Roman ruins in Tunisia, and the birthplace of fashion designer Yves St. Laurent in Algeria. The cultures in Le Maghreb are interesting to explore and experience because they are so different from American culture!
