Emission Control: Environmental Influences on Individuals

Graphic OrganizerNow that you know more about some of the environmental factors that can affect the health of a community and the individuals who live in it, you should analyze your own neighborhood. Complete a chart that comprehensively describes your community's environment. You may want to revisit your journal entry from this topic's warm-up for ideas. On your graphic organizer, you will need to have the following columns:

Graphic Organizer Example
  • Positive Factors - In this column, include items in your local environment that have a positive effect on your health. For example, sidewalks may encourage walking.
  • Negative Factors - In this column, include issues in your local environment that can have a negative effect on your health or the health of people in your neighborhood. For example, trash alongside the road makes the neighborhood dirty and can attract pests.
  • How to Alleviate the Negative Factor - In this column, think of a way you can personally help alleviate each of the negative factors. Make these realistic actions, like picking up trash that you see on the sidewalk or in the grass.

You should include at least four points in each column. You may create your own three column chart, or you may fill out the You and Your Environment Graphic Organizer Template. You may set up your chart however you like, as long as you have the appropriate three columns with all of the necessary criteria.
