Helping a Friend
Your fellow students at Martin Dale High School need your help! Take some time to watch the segment How Can We Handle Stress? from the video Help! I'm Stressed. After viewing the video segment, pretend that Mackenzie, Mark, Alexis, Will, Olivia, or Justin is a good friend of yours and needs your help. Re-watch that person's individual story and take notes on any details your friend provides about his or her problem.
Once you have familiarized yourself with the issue, use your knowledge of stress management, time management, and/or conflict resolution to create a letter or email with advice for your friend. Your letter/email should be at least one page long and should not only explore the causes and effects of the issue but also provide suggestions on how your friend can deal with the problem. The letter/email should be well-organized, personalized, and sensitive to your friend's feelings.
In addition to the letter/email, you will also need to research and provide a list of two school-based or community-based resources (a person or organization) that your friend can contact to get help with their problem. The list should include the contact information for the resource, as well as a short description of the resources' mission and services. Try to be as specific as possible with this information so that a student in need could access the resource quickly if necessary.
Before you begin, access the Helping a Friend Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit.
