Global Warming

The greenhouse effect is the ability for the Earth’s atmosphere to trap heat and it is important to the planet. The effect is what keeps the Earth’s climate stable and habitable; however, there can be harmful effects to the Earth's oceans when too many greenhouse gases are present in the atmosphere. In this interactivity, you will learn more about global warming and its possible impacts on the ocean environment. Click the player button to get started.

How can humans control their effects on global warming? Scientists point to the reduction of burning fossil fuels; however, this change does not come easy. Alternative methods of harnessing energy from solar, wind, tidal, geothermal, nuclear, and hydrogen fuel cells all have their pros and cons, and their supporters and critics. Plus, it will take a global effort with countries agreeing to curb the burning of their fossil fuels. You can do your small, but important part, by limiting your consumption of electricity, gasoline, and diesel by unplugging electrical devices not being used and by finding alternative methods of transportation, such as walking or riding your bicycle if you are able!
