Impulse and Momentum

logging truck Momentum is the vector product of mass and velocity and has units of kilogram meters per second. Any moving object has momentum.

Impulse is when a force is applied to an object for a period of time.  Impulse is a vector quantity that is the product of force times elapsed time and is in units of Newton-seconds.  Impulse changes momentum.  The amount of impulse on an object equals its change in momentum, as Newton seconds is equivalent to kilogram meters per second.
