You have safely made it through the War of 1812, thanks to the skillful navigation of Martina and Terrance. Take a minute to think about what you have learned. American frustration over impressment and perceived British encouragement of American Indian resistance led to the War of 1812. The Federalist political party opposed the war, talked about secession and some constitutional amendments, but ended up not doing anything about any of it. The United States continued to expand its territory by claiming the Oregon Territory and purchasing Florida. Finally, President Monroe expressed a new foreign policy that told European powers to stay away from countries in the Western Hemisphere, in exchange for the United States not interfering in European affairs.
