Westward Expansion

Microblog Microblogs are social networking services that allow people to create mini-blog posts of up to 140 characters in length. Companies, celebrities, and politicians use microblogs to keep "followers" up to date on important events and news, but anyone can create a microblog account to communicate the events and news going on in their life. A sample set of two microblog posts about the advancing technology after the Civil War are shown here:

Getting on the train for the first time.

It was easy working the fields today because of the new reaper.

For this assignment, pretend you are moving out west to take advantage of the Homestead Act of 1862. As you make various stops on the transcontinental railroad, you will need to create a short collection of five microblog posts which reference five different innovations in technology that took place after the Civil War. Make sure to include how the innovation can be used and its potential benefits. As modeled in the example above, these posts do not have to be complete sentences, but they should be complete thoughts. Your microblog posts should be creative, easy to understand, and they should use appropriate language.

Before you begin, access the Advancing Technology Microblog Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit. If resources outside of this course are used to complete this assignment, please submit a Works Cited document.
