Melting PotDid you know?

Historical ConnectionThe term “melting pot” originated as the title of a play created by Israel Zangwill. The play was based on an immigrant family who survived the pogrom, or a violent massacre of a particular ethnic group. In the play, the protagonist says, “America is God's Crucible, the great Melting-Pot where all the races of Europe are melting and reforming...Germans and Frenchmen, Irishmen and Englishmen, Jews and Russians - into the Crucible with you all! God is making the American." Zangwill’s use of the term “melting pot” became a defining term for the immigration and assimilation that occurred in the early twentieth century and continues today. What evidence is in your community today that America is a melting pot?
