The Pacific War
President Truman’s decision to drop the atomic bomb remains controversial. There are arguments both for and against its use. Now it is your turn to explore those arguments and decide for yourself if dropping the atomic bomb was the right decision. What is the best argument for the position you chose? Why do you feel this way? Could anything have been done differently to end the war with Japan? Did the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki violate the terms of the Geneva Convention? Did the dropping of the bombs violate human rights? Post your responses to the discussions area. Then, return to the topic several times over the next few days to read your coursemates’ posts. Reply to at least two of them, making sure to offer new insights, ask questions, and encourage further conversation.
