Module Assessment

Southeast and East Asia

Digital Storytelling

Digital storytelling blends elements of traditional storytelling with modern technology. It allows you to use pictures and/or videos, music, and narration to creatively tell an important story. For this assignment, GEOTREX has asked you to work with another intern (coursemate) to create a digital story. Your digital story should answer the question: What makes Southeast or East Asia a region worth visiting? Your digital story should creatively incorporate elements about the region’s physical geography, economy, and culture.

Your first step in development involves creating a script to narrate the digital story. Before you write the script, make sure you discuss the answers to the following questions with your coursemate:

Be sure to include the following elements in your digital story:

  1. Expression in your narrated voice to maintain the audience’s interest;
  2. Background music and/or sound effects that add meaning to the digital story without being distracting;
  3. Information presented at a pace that keeps viewers engaged without causing them to feel overwhelmed; and
  4. Literal and symbolic images to strengthen what you narrate.

Your digital story should last two to three minutes, and should feature audio narration from both you and your coursemate. Use a computer program, web-based, or mobile application to create the digital story. You can then upload, email, or export your narrated script and the final product for submission to the assignment’s dropbox.

Before you begin, access the GEOTREX Digital Storytelling Checklist to be sure you include all items required for full credit. You will need to use resources outside of this course to complete this assignment, so be sure to submit a Works Cited document. If you need assistance, visit the Student Resources section for information on citing any resources that you use.

After completing this assignment, please submit your work to the dropbox.
