Southeast Asia
Southeast Asia Urban and Rural Images

Aerial cityscape of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
While urbanization in Southeast Asia is rapidly growing, much of the region’s population still lives in rural areas. For example, Indonesia is a more developed country with 260 million people. It is densely populated with large cities. In contrast, other countries in the region consist of small villages clustered in river valleys.
For this assignment, you will draw two images. The images should compare and contrast one urban area and one rural area in Southeast Asia. Select two locations of your choice from Southeast Asia. These locations can be places you learned about in this topic, or ones you research on your own. Please make sure to include the following elements in each of your images:
- A label with the name of the country and the name of the city, town, or village;
- A visual indication of whether the city, town, or village is densely or sparsely populated;
- A visual indication of the economic resources available to the city, town, or village;
- A visual indication of how climate affects the local population's way of life; and
- At least one element about the cultural landscape of the city, town, or village.
You should also include a paragraph that briefly explains how you incorporated each of the above bullet points into your images.
