Atlantic Ocean Currents
The map has no title. The purpose of the map is to show the paths of two Atlantic Ocean currents: The Gulf Stream and North Atlantic Drift. The northern Atlantic Ocean is central in this map. The map shows the eastern coast of North America, Greenland, Iceland, and the western coasts of Europe and Africa. All of the landmasses are shaded in khaki. The ocean is shaded blue. A map key does not exist. A compass rose does not exist on this map. It is assumed that the cardinal direction of north is toward the top of the map, west is to the left of the map, east is to the right of the map, and south is toward the bottom of the map.
- There are three red arrows that depict the path of the Gulf Stream. The first arrow starts in the bottom left corner of the map. The starting point indicates the western and central Atlantic Ocean, near the Bahamas. This arrow points northward. The next arrow extends northward and eastward along the east coast of the North America from Florida, past Newfoundland. The third red arrow travels from Newfoundland eastward across the Atlantic Ocean.
- There are three blue arrows that represent North Atlantic Drift. The first blue arrow starts directly after the most northerly red arrow from the Gulf Stream’s path. This arrow extends in a northern and eastward direction, but stays west of Ireland. The second arrow continues in a northern and eastward direction between Iceland and Great Britain. The third blue arrow continues in a northern and eastern direction and ends in the Norwegian Sea, west of Scandinavia. The third blue arrow of North Atlantic Drift ends in the top right corner of the map.
